Mindhunters (2004)

Mindhunters didn’t even got a UK cinema release, adding another chapter to the spotty history of director Renny Harlin. It was actually filmed back in 2001 and has been playing assorted film festivals for the past year.

Val Kilmer and Christian Slater star alongside younger actors of various nationalities and accents, leading them to a remote assessment center for psychological profilers, and it all turns into Ten Little Indians as you would expect. This might have seemed fresh and innovative back in 2001 but now it’s been done to death by CSI and the like, the main attraction is the series of unlikely set-piece deaths. Harlin makes it entertaining as usual, but something’s not quite right, and big budget movies with a famous director and cast don’t sit on the shelf for this long without a reason.
