Martin (1977)
Another old Romero classic is just out on R1 DVD. Martin was released years ago on Anchor Bay but has long since been out of print, but now here it is with a new transfer (not quite in the correct ratio) and a new commentary.
While the occasional graphic violence means it’s not for everyone, it’s a very clever and moody story of a psychopath who may or may not be an ageless vampire, set against a background of urban decay. As the DVD box says, ‘A vampire for our age of disbelief’ – the first decent tagline the movie’s ever had.
